Gold Coast police accused of 'horrendous' assault

GOLD Coast police have again been accused of excessive violence, with new footage showing a man being punched in the face in Surfers Paradise last year.

The video, which aired on Nine News on Tuesday, shows officers dragging 20-year-old Brayden Aaron Mechen to a police van in September.

An officer delivers a right hook straight to Mr Mechen's face just before he is loaded inside.

On Tuesday, Mr Mechen was due to face the Southport Magistrates Court on assault charges but the case was dropped due to a lack of evidence.

The Queensland Police Service confirmed one of the officers involved, Matthew Neijman, resigned after the incident.
