Jilted grannie's shopping centre snap on hubby's lover

A GRANDMOTHER who "snapped" at a shopping centre and took revenge on a younger woman who had an affair with her husband of 40 years has fronted court.

Karen Evans, 58, this morning pleaded guilty at the Caloundra Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard that on September 13, Evans was shopping at Coles Caloundra when she saw the woman who had an eight-month affair with her husband.

The victim, 30, and her daughter, 4, were getting a coffee at about 10.45am and attempted to walk past Evans.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Amanda Brewer said Evans confronted the victim, saying "we need to talk", to which the victim replied, "not in front of my daughter".

Evans called the victim a "s--t" and a "tart" before grabbing her by the hair and throat.

"She squeezed her mouth into a duck face, causing pain and discomfort," Sgt Brewer said.

"She grabbed her hair and pulled her down, in front of witnesses."

Evans had no prior criminal history.

The daughter of the victim was traumatised and crying, and a doctor's report said the victim sustained soft tissue injuries and scratches.

The court heard Evans was "shocked" to hear of the affair and "just snapped" when she saw the victim.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist did not buy that Evans snapped.

Evans was convicted and fined $900 and ordered to pay the victim $1200 in compensation.
