Group to ensure state gets best opportunities from G20

WELL-KNOWN Queensland business figure Catherine Tanna will lead a new peak group to host the huge international economic G20 conference in Brisbane this year.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Wednesday announced Ms Tanna, the head of gas giant BG Group, would head the new Queensland 20, a group created to ensure the state gets the best local business opportunities from the massive conference.

The G20 meetings will attract some 25 world leaders, some 4,000 economic and business delegates and as many as 3,000 media representatives later in the year.

Ms Tanna will lead the new Q20 group, to help the state capitalise on the influx of industry and political figures for the economic summit in Brisbane.

After previous executive roles with Shell and BHP Billiton, Ms Tanna is also a current Reserve Bank of Australia board member.
