Gunners return to form as Collins hits hat-trick
Football: Pete Collins struck a hat-trick and Dale Lankeit can consider himself unlucky not to have done the same, as Gunners ran all over rivals Wests 6-2 on Saturday.
The strike duo of Collins and Lankeit proved the difference in the Kingaroy derby, with the latter's hat-trick denied by a deflection off a Wests defender recorded as an own goal.
Regardless, it was an important return to form for the Gunners who have had a frustrating fortnight in front of goal prior to Saturday's demolition.
A 1-1 draw to Barambah was followed by a 3-2 defeat to Nanango last time out.
Finding the back of the net six times was just what the doctor ordered according to coach Debbie Ovens.
"It was a good response, we finally started to finish well,” Ovens said.
"It's been a bit lacking the last couple of games, and we've picked that up a little bit.”
Having drawn their past two encounters with Wests, Ovens breathed a great sigh of relief following the final whistle.
"It was an epic effort, the boys should be very proud of themselves,” Ovens said.
"The last couple of games against Wests we've had a stack of chances but weren't able to finish.
"Once the ball finds the back of the net the flood gates open. The boys get a taste for it, and it's what we needed to happen heading into the finals.”
