Hawkins given time to make game decision

ALREADY battling a long injury list, Geelong will give star forward Tom Hawkins until close to game time on Sunday to decide if he is up to playing against North Melbourne after the death of his mother last weekend.

Hawkins was a late withdrawal from Sunday's match against the Gold Coast after his mother Jennifer passed away following a courageous battle with her health.

Cats coach Chris Scott said Hawkins would be named in a 25-man squad, but the final decision would be left up to him.

"The only thing that we need to be clear with Tom about is that he understands that it is completely his decision and he doesn't owe us anything in terms of playing this weekend," he said.

"If Tom decides to play, he'll have our full support."

Scott said a decision on whether defender Tom Lonergan (concussion) played would also be delayed.
