Hayne back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons

RUGBY LEAGUE: The

The superstar fullback dominated the headlines all week ahead of Saturday's clash with Newcastle and still he's the talking point for the wrong reasons.

Jarryd Hayne lasted only 29 minutes before picking up an ankle injury at Hunter Stadium.

The No.1 was chasing a kick when he ran into Trent Hodkinson, twisting his ankle in the process.

Hayne was already on crutches at half-time as the Titans were left reeling after yet another injury.

The pain didn't stop with the loss of Hayne, with hooker Karl Lawton also ruled out of the game.

Lawton dislocated his shoulder after a strong showing which saw him score a try.

The Titans also lost winger Anthony Don who injured his right pec while attempting to make a tackle four minutes from half-time.

"We're not real good," Titans coach Neil Henry said post-match.

"We've got two dislocated shoulders and quite a serious ankle injury.

"We don't have a prognosis yet but you can safely say none of those will play next week and it could be a lot longer."

The medical team's had a look but we'll know more in a day or two

In the build-up to the game, Hayne was the subject of great discussion after news emerged that he was dropped from the leadership group due to a poor attitude and fined by the coach for missing a training session.

Still despite losing three of their troops before half-time, the visitors still went into the break 16-12 leaders.

It's yet another cruel blow for a team already riddled with injury.

Already without Nathan Peats (shoulder), Pat Politoni (arm) and John Oliver (pec), the Titans' depth is set to be tested.

Throw in the loss of Will Zillman (calf) and Dan Sarginson (knee) in the lead-up to this game and the club is stretched thin.
