Headed to the grand final
SOUTH Burnett have booked a spot in this season's Goodchild Shield grand final after a dominant 190-run win against Gympie on Sunday.
South Burnett opened their representative match at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy, and posted a commanding total of 9/311 after 50 overs.
Dan O'Connor top scored for his region with a superb 96 followed closely by Anthony Eden who also produced a top knock with 91.
Brendan Weil was the third highest scorer as he posted 32 while Mark Smith was the best of the Gympie bowlers taking 2/41 off 10 overs.
Gympie headed into their batting innings chasing 312 for victory but were dismissed for 121 as South Burnett booked a place in this seasons Goodchild Shield final.
Jon Alexander was the standout South Burnett bowler taking 5/22 off 8 overs while Captain Michael Davies also contributed to Gympie's downfall taking 4/31 from his 7.4 overs.
Danny Shepperson top scored for Gympie with 27 while Brendan Mahaffey finished on 26.
South Burnett will now play the winner of last Sunday's game between Bundaberg and Fraser Coast in the Goodchild Shield grand final.
The team with the higher net run rate will host the decider on Sunday, February 3.
