Heat wave, fire bans for two southern states

VICTORIANS and South Australians are bracing for a weekend of scorching heat as bushfire crews prepare for two more 40-degree days.

The mercury stayed high in both southern states yesterday, showing 42 degrees in Adelaide and 37 degrees in Melbourne.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts 40-plus degrees today and tomorrow in both states.

With fire bans active across large swathes of both states yesterday and forecast to be widened across the entire states, emergency services urged people to ensure their bushfire plans were in place.

It follows five 35-plus degree days in both states.
