Heavy hauls on first day of Family Fishing Classic

THE FISH were biting today and anglers made the most of it at BP Dam.

Day one of the Austackle 2014 BP Dam Inland Family Fishing Classic saw plenty of anglers lining up with their catch of the day at the weigh station.

Austackle fisherman Trevor Stead said 89 fish were weighed in after the first session.

"There's been some really good fish," he said.

"The dam is fishing really well, it's a lot of fun out there."

Logan Hazard pulled in a monster yellowbelly that was a contender for catch of the day.

"We caught more but this was the biggest, it's 56 cm" he said.

The competition will continue tomorrow and it's expected to be another great day for fishing.
