Help for our farmers with an oily problem
SOUTH Burnett farmers are encouraged to take advantage of an opportunity to recycle their used oil through waste management company J.J. Richards & Sons.
The waste management company offers oil collections in the South Burnett Regional Council region as well as Charleville, Balonne, Goondiwindi, Western Downs, Southern Downs, Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley.
Queensland Farmers' Federation (QFF) President Stuart Armitage said the initiative had already collected more than 30,000L of used oil from farms across the state.
"This program assists farmers to manage a difficult waste stream generated from farming operations and reduce its on-farm hazard potential,” he said.
"Waste oils can pose environmental harm if not adequately stored or disposed of and during natural disasters including flood and fire can pose significant health and safety risks.”
QFF has been working with farmers and rural communities to recognise the importance of farm sustainability.
"We continue to strive for innovative and practical solutions to better manage farm waste that can enhance our land and natural resource stewardship responsibilities,” Mr Armitage said.
The farmers' federation was thankful a commercial organisation was supportive of their vision.
"QFF extends its gratitude to J.J. Richards & Sons for supporting this aim and providing this service,” Mr Armitage said.
