Help make wine at the stomping festival in Kingaroy
GET down to the root of winemaking by joining in Kingsley Grove Estate's Grape Stomping Festival.
The traditional event will be held at the Kingaroy winery on Saturday February 9 from 11am to 5pm.
Sales and marketing manager Jo Berry said stomping festival participants were invited to come along and pick the grapes from the vines on the day.
"It's very traditional, Simon the wine-maker will be down near the vines and direct people where to go and pick at the best places,” she said.
They will then be encouraged to go barefoot and stomp on the grapes in the vats to release their juices and begin the fermentation process.
This will be the first stomping festival Kingsley Grove has hosted.
They decided to put on the event after they lost a significant amount of crops due to hail damage during the severe storms in October last year.
"Unfortunately we were not be able to make wine from it,” Mrs Berry said.
Many of the grapes fell off the vine during the storm and never fully developed.
The second shooting of grapes which occurred after the storm did not have the quality required for commercial wine.
All equipment required for the grape harvest will be supplied.
After the stomping, participants will be invited to enjoy a long table harvest buffet at the winery.
There will be a professional photographer and plenty of wine to drink.
"We will put the picnic tables near the vineyards for people to spend time down there,” Mrs Berry said.
Since tables and chairs will go fast, participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets for the event.
Participants are welcome to stay in their caravans for free on site during the festival.
Tickets must be purchased prior to the event and are $65 per adult.
Children gain free entry with a paying adult.
