High fire risk continues

A FIRE in the Cloyna and Elginvale area burning since Tuesday has burnt out about 200 hectares of land.

Kingaroy Area Commander Mark Long said Queensland fire and rescue has been working through the week to contain the blaze which is now under control but continues to burn freely.

Two more fires were attended to yesterday in the region including an incident at Albert St Kingaroy in which a shade sail was accidentally set alight by a cigarette.

The second incident was attended immediately after at approximately 4.30pm.

Area Comm. Long said a car caught fire on the Burrandowan Rd and the flames quickly spread to the dry grass but was brought under control.

High temperatures, low humidity and strong wind gusts increase the chance of fires and Queensland Fire and Rescue continues to urge caution during high risk conditions.
