Horn's hopes rise after Pacquiao promoter says Khan fight is off

BOXING: Manny Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, has re-ignited hopes of a fight between the Filipino superstar and Australian Jeff Horn by announcing that Pacquiao's proposed bout with Amir Khan is now dead in the water.

Pacquiao and Horn were originally set to fight at Suncorp Stadium in April before the eight-time world champion reneged on that to pursue a lucrative bout with Englishman Khan in the UAE.

Pacquiao took to Twitter to announce the pair was in negotations with the 38-year-old saying Khan was his preferred opponent.

But that prospect is off, according to Arum.

"It's kaddish for the UAE deal. It's dead," Arum told ESPN.

"I'm talking to him about another proposal for another fight, not Khan.

"Khan won't be Manny's next opponent."

Arum said Pacquiao was likely to look at arranging a fight in June or July.

The Horn-Pacquiao fight would have been one of the biggest in Australian boxing history.
