Horrific truck crush accident: Plea for witnesses

A MAN was in a stable condition last night after he was crushed between two semi-trailers on the Tablelands.

The 25-year-old suffered chest, back and abdomen injuries when he was trapped between the trucks on Malanda-Millaa Millaa Rd near Millaa Millaa about 2pm yesterday.

Paramedics worked to treat him at the scene before he was flown to Cairns Hospital by the Rescue 510 helicopter in a serious but stable condition.

Family members of the man met the helicopter as it arrived at the hospital about 4pm.

Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Leon Oliveri said two ambulances and a critical care paramedic attended the scene.

"The vehicle rolled on to the patient and he became trapped with his chest and abdomen sustaining some injuries," he said.

It is understood the man had stopped his truck near the intersection of East Evelyn Rd and was at the back trailer attending to it when a tanker driver pulled in behind to assist.

Initial investigations suggest one of the trucks rolled, trapping the man between the two heavy vehicles.

East Evelyn Rd was closed for some time with police liaising with local Malanda schools due to traffic delays.

Cairns Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

Witnesses yet to speak with police are asked to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
