‘Horrified’: MP responds to alleged school bashing
MEMBER for Nanango Deb Frecklington said she 'was horrified' following the alleged schoolyard bashing at Nanango High School, which left a 12-year-old student in hospital.
Ms Frecklington sympathised with the victims of the schoolyard incident and said these types of attacks were not acceptable.
"I was horrified to hear about the incident at Nanango State High School recently and my thoughts are with the young student and her family," she said.
"As a mother, I understand that parents must be able to send their children to school with the understanding they are safe."
Ms Frecklington was confident our schools are doing all they can to combat school bullying, but she believed there were still many improvements to be made.
"Bullying of any type is not acceptable and while I know our school communities are doing all they can to stamp it out, it is obvious it is an ongoing challenge and there is a lot more to do," she said.
The member for Nanango condemned online sites which promoted bullying and schoolyard fights.
She encouraged anyone that was aware of such sites to let the authorities know immediately.
"There's also a worrying trend that some students think it's acceptable to share videos of incidents online," she said.
"If any parent or school community member is aware of these types of sites, please let the school know so action can be taken to shut it down."
