Hours to change at council waste facilities
NEW opening hours at the Murgon and Wondai waste facilities will come into effect next month.
The changes form art of the South Burnett Regional Council's preparations for the new state waste levy which will start on July 1.
A supervisor for the waste facilities has been decided and will start the same day as the new opening hours on Monday, June 17.
The supervisor will start two weeks before the new levy comes into effect to educate and advise customers about the changes.
The open days for the Murgon and Wondai facilities will alternate during weekdays, and will overlap on the weekends.
The Murgon waste facility will be open from 8am-noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Wondai waste facility will be open from 1-5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Councillor Roz Frohloff said the proposed operating hours were decided after community consultations.
"It is acknowledged that no restricted hours arrangement is going to suit everyone,” she said.
The changes were made after the State Government's decision for the sites to be supervised.
"The council is trying to minimise the financial impact upon South Burnett ratepayers, while trying to balance residents' and commercial operators' need to be able to access a landfill for waste disposal every day of the week,” Cr Frohloff said.
Cr Kathy Duff said the council had no choice but to change the operating hours due to financial restrictions.
"Murgon and Wondai people are not going to be excited about the restricted hours. It will take a bit of time to settle down,” she said.
Mayor Keith Campbell said the decision was made to reduce the cost to ratepayers.
"No one is significantly disadvantaged,” he said.
"We ask everyone to be responsible and utilise the facilities available to you.”
