House destroyed by fire in southwest Queensland

FIRE investigators will return to the scene of a home destroyed in a raging blaze last night.

A nearby resident on Murchison St, St George, raised the alarm with emergency services after fire broke out about 8.45pm.

No-one was home at the time of the fire, and a dog at the property was not injured.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the house was destroyed in the fire as crews battled to bring it under control.

A police spokeswoman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious but investigations were continuing to determine the cause of the fire.

Queensland Ambulance were put on standby at the scene as a precaution in case of injuries, but no-one was transported to hospital or treated at the scene.

St George was hit by a dust storm and hot winds yesterday and investigators will work to determine if that contributed to the fire.
