House destroyed in Ellesmere fire

A MAN has lost his home following a house fire in the early hours of the final day of 2017.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said they received the call about the fire on Parker Rd, Ellesmere at 1.40am.

"There were reports of a house engulfed in flames,” the spokesman said.

"It had suffered significant structural damage.

"The crews on the ground reported part of the structure was close to collapsing or some of it had collapsed.”

The spokesman said the home was a single-story weatherboard house with a tin roof.

"The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area,” he said.

"The single occupant was attended for.

"Crews managed to get job under control by 3.30am, though they continued to work right up until between 4 and 5am.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said they also attended the fire.

"Paramedics treated one male for smoke inhalation after the house fire,” the spokesperson said.

The QFES spokesman said fire investigators were not required to attend the scene.

"We had a combination of urban and rural fire brigades there,” the said.

"Police were also on scene as a precaution.”
