How to help shape the future of art in Nanango
CREATIVE Connections are hosting meetings to discuss the future of art in Nanango.
Sandy Towell from Creative Connections says the sudden urgency came after their local gallery recently shut down.
"Because of the New Beginnings Gallery closing down, we've hosted a meeting to see if we can get some momentum happening on setting up some more art and craft activities for people,” she said.
"We've become quite under-utilised because we don't have a gallery, we don't have any professional spaces any more.”
The meeting will explore the potential of an Arts Precinct in Nanango.
"We would like to try and develop an arts' precinct at some stage. That's a long-term plan, but it's necessary because Nanango has such a wealth of artistic people,” Ms Towell said.
"We want to see how we can build on that with theatre, dance, sound and lighting, and maybe even linking it to courses in the future.”
The next meeting will be held at 10am on Wednesday, December 12, at the Creative Connections centre.
"We're trying to get it out to everybody who's interested in the Arts in Nanango,” Ms Towell said.
"Rather than one person with a passion trying to drive it, we really need everyone to feel like they've been heard, and we want them to share their visions. The more opinions the merrier at this early stage, and then we can develop a plan of action.
"I've invited our local councillor along, and we'll see how this influence can help with us. For anyone who wants some information, feel free to contact me on 0423 830 224.”
