How tradies should take care of their feet
MOST jobs in the construction and trades industry require a lot of working on your feet.
Because of this, for the sake of both your job and your health, it's important to be taking care of your feet properly.
South Burnett Podiatry owner Katharine Butcher said that the first step of a tradie's footcare efforts should be wearing footwear that is up to standards for their work.
Many jobs in the construction industry will require you to wear steel capped boots for your safety, while others might require other options.
"Welders will need to wear something non-flammable, while a painter will need to wear something with good grip,” she said.
Ms Butcher said it's also important that your shoes are a good fit, giving support where you need it.
"There are a lot of shoe brands on the market and not everything will suit everyone's feet,” she said.
According to Ms Butcher, if you visit a podiatrist, they can guide you on what different brands and shoe styles will work best for you.
While shoe choice is important, some extra care will need to go into maintaining the condition of your feet.
"If you have heavy perspiration and find that your feet are often hot and damp, regular sock changes throughout the day is important to prevent fungus infections,” Ms Butcher said.
"I often see tradies with those issues.”
Ms Butcher said if you are not sure about how to take care of your feet properly or are having feet problems, it's worthwhile to seek out a podiatrist.
