CSIRO investigated over possible case of espionage

INTELLIGENCE authorities are investigating a possible espionage case at the CSIRO, after a student working at the nation's science organisation accessed sensitive information.

Reports in Fairfax Media today revealed both federal police and Australia's intelligence community were investigating the matter.

The man, a post-doctoral student who, until last week, worked in CSIRO's nanotechnology area, is also under investigation for the possible leaking of information to foreign nationals.

Fairfax reported the CSIRO had referred the issue to the Australian Federal Police, and no further comment was being made on Wednesday.
