Investigation into Gold Coast death in custody

AN INVESTIGATION is underway into how a man died as police tried to take him into custody on the Gold Coast yesterday. 

The Ethical Standards Command is looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 65-year-old man at Robina. 

Preliminary information indicates police attended a Leopardwood Circuit residence around 4.30pm following a call in relation to a domestic disturbance.

Initial information suggests the man stopped breathing after struggling with officers as they attempted to take him into custody.

Police commenced CPR and called for an ambulance, however attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.

The State Coroner has been advised and the Crime and Corruption Commission has oversight of the investigation.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
