Jury shown photos of dead body in Manson murder trial

A JURY has been shown chilling photographs of a dead man who was dumped in the back of a ute and left in grassland at Coominya, north west of Ipswich.

Jamie Rex Teichmann on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to murdering Michael Manson, 48, in late 2010.

During the first day of a Supreme Court trial that is expected to last for seven days, prosecutor Ben Power told the court one witness will testify that Teichmann confessed to him about killing Manson, saying "…I knocked him to the ground, when he was on the ground I jumped on his head, I smashed his head in frenzy. He wasn't moving, I just kept jumping on his head".

Mr Power said Mr Manson's body was found late at night on December 10, 2010 in the back of a ute parked in grassy bushland off an abandoned dirt track.

He told the court the victim allegedly died from bleeding to the brain but that his brain was decomposing, making it difficult for doctors to examine.

Mr Power also said there were allegedly no fractures on Mr Manson's body but there was bruising.

Photographs of Mr Manson's body were shown to the court. They showed his body face down with his feet sticking out of the top of the ute's tray.

The tray cover was also down and partially covering the body.

The photographs also showed Mr Manson's body was among other items in the back of the ute, including a ladder and an Esky.

Mr Power also said the jury would hear evidence about how Teichmann allegedly left Mr Manson dead or dying on the side of a road and enlisted the help of two other men to drive the body and leave it in an abandoned overgrown track.

Mr Power told the jury it would be up to them to determine whether Teichmann committed murder, manslaughter or was not guilty of either.

The trial continues.
