Jurors retire to consider verdict in indecent treatment case

UPDATE 12.45PM: Jurors have retired to consider their decision on whether or not a man had indecent sexual relations with a nine-year-old girl.

Judge Michael Burnett addressed the jury in the Gladstone District Court on Thursday morning, pointing out the credibility of the girls' testimony was needed to convict the accused.

The man faces three charges, two of which are indecent conduct with a child under the age of 16.

The third is whether he maintained a sexual relationship with a child under the age of 16.

EARLIER: A jury must decide whether an accused man maintained a sexual relation with a nine-year-old girl or if he was naive in treating her warts.

In the second day of a trial at Gladstone District Court on Wednesday, jurors were told the man had treated the girl's warts on her hand, ankle and knee.

In a pre-recorded video where the girl was cross-examined by defence lawyer Stephen Courtney, she admitted she told the man she might have other warts and pointed at her leg.

The girl denied she voluntarily removed her underwear.

When questioned if the accused had touched her vagina she said: "I don't really know. I don't remember but he did look."

A doctor who examined the girl said there had been no evidence of warts around her genitals.

The girl also said in the video that the accused told her not to tell anyone about the warts near her vagina because she would be embarrassed.

The man has pleaded not guilty to three charges of indecent treatment and having a sexual relationship with a child under the age of 12.

Judge Michael Burnett will address the jury on Thursday morning before it retires to make a decision.
