Rugby star in court on cocaine charges

AUSTRALIAN rugby union star Karmichael Hunt has faced court accused of possessing cocaine, but his lawyer says it's too early to say if he'll fight the charges.

The Wallabies player appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and a single count of contravening a police direction.

His lawyer Adam Magill requested the matter be adjourned until February 19 to give him and his client time to review the police material.

Mr Magill said outside court it was "too early to tell" if the Queensland Reds player would fight the charges.

"We've only just got the material now," he said.

"We haven't even read it, it's literally just been handed to us in an envelope."

Hunt was charged after officers allegedly found him in possession of cocaine and alprazolam during a search of the three-code footballer in a car park in the inner-Brisbane suburb of Fortitude Valley on December 30.

The 31-year-old was also charged with contravening a police direction following an alleged incident at Fortitude Valley police station on January 6.
