Katter Party targets regional Qld seats

THE Katter's Australian Party will target specific regional seats at the Queensland election and believe they can double their MPs.

The party's targets include Lockyer, Gympie and Nanango as well as far north Queensland seats.

KAP Dalrymple MP Shane Knuth said the party was confident in the lead up to next year's election.

"We believe we're going to pick up from three to six seats at the next election," he said.

"We've got some very good candidates out there right at the present moment.

"We have endorsed a candidate now for the seat of Burdekin and likewise the seat of Cook. We've got Dalrymple, Mt Isa, we've also got Condamine, Gympie, Lockyer and also Nanango."

Mr Knuth said regional seats presented a strong opportunity for the KAP to grow.

"We're not going to do what we did in the last election, spread our resources right across the state.

"What we're going to do is narrow those resources down and target about 10-12 seats that we believe we can possibly win. And this is why we believe we're in a very good position. We'll be in a strong position."

KAP Queensland leader Rob Katter said the party had not had discussions with One Nation before the election but was open to working with the party if it was elected.

He said KAP would work with anyone willing to stand up against asset sales and spend money on industry-building infrastructure outside of Brisbane.

"We've had no discussions with her and we have no plans to at this stage," he said.
