'Keep the shows alive': Showgirls inspired at state finals

SPENDING a week with other incredible young women has inspired Teagan Hall to help keep rural shows alive.

"I'd encourage young people to keep the show alive, and to make sure we keep that important aspect in our small communities,” she said.

South Burnett's Miss Showgirl spent five days at the Brisbane Ekka as part of the state finals last week.

"It was an amazing experience and such a great opportunity,” Miss Hall said.

The 18-year-old entrant was the first Miss Showgirl representative from Murgon Show Society to go to the Ekka.

The university student said she was the youngest in the entire competition and enjoyed learning from the other life experiences of the 10 other entrants who ranged in age from 21 to 25.

"It's a great opportunity to learn from others and hear how they've gone in their agricultural journey,” Miss Hall said.

She said her highlight was spending time with the other entrants such as the Monto's Clare Webb, the Queensland Country Life 2019 Miss Showgirl.

"Being able to spend a week with 10 other strong, empowering women, we all had the same point of view,” Miss Hall said.

"We're all from small rural towns and have the common goal of keeping the shows alive.”

The showgirls participated in leadership courses and social media development courses with Queensland Country Life.

They also met the Governor, Governor-General, the Speaker for Parliament and attended a women in agricultural leadership breakfast.

"We got to go down to the Ekka in the main cattle judging ring and sash some cattle,” Miss Hall said.

The girls also dressed up to attend sponsor dinners to meet those who support the showgirl competition.

Miss Hall encourages South Burnett girls to give the showgirl competition a go next year.

"I came away with a heap of knowledge of how we can bring some more showgirls through and give them the same opportunities I was given,” she said.
