FORMER Voice coach Keith Urban will make a cameo on tonight's premiere of The Voice series 2.
The Nashville-based country music superstar will symbolically hand over the reins of his coaching spot to new addition Ricky Martin, host Darren McMullen told the Today show yesterday.
"They (the coaches) were performing and rehearsing their song for the opening number and Keith hits his button and his chair spins around and he goes 'yeah I'll take all of you'.
"It was a surprise for all the guys."
Delta Goodrem, Seal and Joel Madden all return to the show, but there are a few tweaks to the format.
Each coach can now select 14 artists from the blind auditions, rather than 12, and the coaches will have the new "save" power in the battle rounds.
"Last year you'll remember that incredible battle between Mahalia (Barnes) and Prinnie (Stevens), and one of them had to go," McMullen said.
"This year the coaches have a save, so Mahalia could have been saved by one of the other coaches.
"Each coach has one save and they have to use it throughout the battle shows."
The Voice airs tonight at 6.30pm on Channel 9/WIN, and then 7pm Monday through Wednesday.
