Keli Lane refused bail in lead up to appeal

CONVICTED child killer Keli Lane will remain behind bars as she prepares to challenge the 18-year jail sentence she is serving for the 1996 murder of her baby daughter.

The 37-year-old former water polo champion was found guilty in 2010 of killing two-day-old Tegan, whose body has never been found.

Lane is appealing the conviction on the grounds the trial was unfairly prejudiced from the beginning.

She was refused bail on Thursday morning despite arguments from her legal team that the jury who convicted her were not told that alternate charges like infanticide and manslaughter could have been considered.

Justice Hoeben told the Sydney Supreme Court that while that "might have been the case" he would refuse bail and hand down his reasons on Friday.
