VOLUNTEERS were required when the Kingaroy General Hospital's dental clinic first opened in 1973.

After being granted $42,000 to bring a dental clinic to life, clinic superintendent Mr A. R. Thomas and his assistant, Jill McBride, called out for the help of Diane Shailer, a nurse on site.

Ms Shailer was labelled the clinic's first patient, according to a South Burnett Times newspaper released on Wednesday, February 21, 1973.

As well as Mr Thomas and Ms McBride, a dental technician was also staffed to the clinic, which first opened to the public on Friday, February 23, 1973.
