Kingaroy ready to host Wide Bay opposition
TWICE a week since the start of the year Kingaroy's youngest touch football stars have been putting in the hard yards at training.
This weekend the players will have the chance to test their skills and challenge their opposition on their home ground as Kingaroy play host to the Wide Bay touch football carnival.
Carnival co-ordinator Tess Taylor said the club were proud to welcome 25 teams from Childers, Hervey Bay, Gympie, Gayndah and Maryborough to the region for the carnival.
"We see it as a good opportunity for kids to play locally and bring other people to the community,” she said.
"It is also good for families to be able to support people locally.”
Four Kingaroy teams will compete, a girls and boys team in under10 and U12s and an U16 girls team.
With Kingaroy teams regularly travelling to carnivals up to three hours away it is a great opportunity for the club who will host the carnival for the next two years.
"We want to it be a really positive thing for the touch association and it is a real privilege to host,” Taylor said.
Teams will compete at the championships on Sunday from 8.30am.
