SHOPPERS in Kingaroy and regional Queensland have been granted a reprieve during the Christmas Holidays.
The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission handed down its decision today to allow a one-off amendment to regional Queensland's trading hours.
The amendment will mean shoppers will not be locked out on the gazetted Boxing Day public holiday Monday, December 28.
Due to a quirk in this year's holiday dates, major retailers including Kingaroy Shoppingworld faced forced closure for four consecutive days.
However the Kingaroy centre, along with other regional centres across rural Queensland, will now be allowed to open their doors Monday, December 28.
The one-off amendment to trading hours comes after the National Retail Association launched a bid for special exemption in September.
