Year 11 student Callum Tucker already knows how he's going to spend a big chunk of his Christmas holidays this year, with his acceptance into the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra.

The Kingaroy State High School student will participate in a two-week program which involves a mix of scientific, formal, personal development and social activities held at the Australian National University's campus in the second half of January, 2016.

The focus of the university experience is to provide young Australians with an opportunity to develop insight and skills for future careers in science, engineering and technology.

"We'll be able to network with other students from across Australia," Callum said. "It's an exciting opportunity to spend two weeks focused on the different achievements and opportunities in this field."

There are only 300 students from across Australia and New Zealand who were selected to attend, from approximately 1200 students who applied. The forum is run in conjunction with Rotary, with prospective attendees being interviewed by their local Rotary club then being sponsored for the next round if successful.

Kingaroy State High School has a strong link with the NYSF, as Year 12 student Daniel Lawson attended the 2015 event and was then selected to attend the London International Youth Science Forum last month.
