Mayor responds to Nanango streetscape criticism

AFTER plenty of community interest and criticism of the Nanango streetscape, Wayne Kratzmann has defended the project.

South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Kratzmann said he welcomed the community feedback surrounding the construction.

"I do not agree with the suggestion that we have not consulted with businesses and the community. That assertion is simply untrue," Cr Kratzmann said.

Cr Kratzmann said he agreed the project has taken longer than predicted and delays were out of the Councils control.

"My Council is committed to improving all our towns and with this in mind we chose Nanango to lead the way," Cr Kratzmann said.

He believed it would be a wonderful upgrade to the town.

"The suggestion from some to stop the work in progress was simply nonsensical and would be simply a great loss of ratepayers money," Cr Kratzmann said.

Cr Kratzmann said the cost of the project to date were;

  • Roadworks:  $593,435
  • Scotts Carpark: $627,711
  • Streetscaping: $466,670
