Landlords need to contribute to town renewal

BUILDING and shop owners should start planning improvements to their buildings ahead of the Kingaroy Revitalisation Project

This is the message from South Burnett Regional Council's Planning and Property Portfolio holder Terry Fleischfresser.

He welcomed news the old retail building opposite the court house on Kingaroy St would be demolished and replaced.

"It is well over due for those shops to be removed from that area considering council is well down the track for the Kingaroy Revitalisation Project,” he said.

"The council will encourage all shop owners to upgrade their facilities because, as the fund become available, there's every opportunity that we may start sooner rather than later on the first stage of the project.”

Cr Fleischfresser confirmed the council had spoken to building owner Gary Barron about the demolition but said the concept of a large retailer moving onto the site was still a long way off.

"There are only fairly informal discussions in house at the moment,” he said.
