Lassila and Scott take Australia back to top in aerials

SKIING: Another win by Lydia Lassila and a silver by points leader Danielle Scott have moved Australia back into the No.1 position in the aerial skiing World Cup.

Lassila, a two-time Winter Olympic medallist, claimed her second World Cup win from four events in Minsk, Belarus.

However, she was coming off a disappointing 17th at her last start at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games site in Pyeongchang.

"My jumping is getting better as the season goes on," Lassila said. "I've toned down my excitement from my first win but I'm equally wrapped."

She executed the best triple-twisting double somersault of the three medallists in Minsk to score 97.64, edging Scott (94.47) and Xu (91.29).

Lassila moved to third in the standings after winning in just her second event back from a three-year break at the start of the month.

Scott only needs to finish above Xu in the final event in Moscow next month to be the overall World Cup winner in aerial skiing.

"The qualifying jump kind of bummed me out because it was wind affected," Scott said.

"For the final, I didn't mind what the weather was. I definitely went in with a good mind set."
