Leap year baby Marianne, 40, turns 10 today

FOR Marianne Hiron, birthdays are few and far between.

In fact, she has only ever had 10 actual birthdays despite being 40-years-old.

Marianne, from Raglan, is a leap year baby and says her kids find it hilarious that they are catching up to their mum's real age.

"I've got two little kids... they are eight and nine-years-old.

"My son said we could've had a shared tenth birthday party (next year).

"He will be thinking he's older than me soon."

Being a leap year baby hasn't seen Marianne miss out over the years, if anything, she's had more birthday celebrations.

"My family always made me feel special," the mother-of-two said.

"When I was younger we'd celebrate February 28 and March 1, I was lucky there."

And February 29 is a special day for Marianne's parents as well, who were married on a leap year, and years later, Marianne was born on the same day.

"I guess it would've been a nice surprise that it all happened on a special day."

Marianne, who is originally from England, said she has yet to meet another person with the same birthday.

Though it is Marianne's actual tenth birthday, she said celebrations will be kept small with a barbecue.
