Learner driver ‘fearing for his life’ pulled over twice

A LEARNER driver who fled Bundaberg in fear of his life, was caught driving unregistered and without a supervisor twice on Sunday morning.

John Keith Welch, 23, faced Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday after he was picked up by police at 4am on the Bruce Hwy.

He told police he was fleeing after being shot at and feared for his life.

He was later arrested in Alford Park for the same offences and told police if he was allowed he would keep on driving until he made his destination.

Magistrate M. Baldwin convicted Welch and warned him not to go near his car.

"They've got you twice now and they'll be watching," she said.
