HE'S the boy from the bush, and he's back in town.

Lee Kernaghan fans were yesterday delighted to meet the legendary country singer, who stopped by the Ruralco Marquee at Beef Australia 2015.

It was his third time at Beef Australia, which he described as a "huge boost for the bush".

"In many ways it's a celebration of all things country so I feel right at home," he said.

But it's not just the event that holds memories for Lee.

He said the Beef Capital was his "second home" and had left him with great memories over the years.

"One of the greatest parts of my life was being a co-owner of the Great Western Hotel," Lee said.

"It was just a wonderful experience to be part of the local community, bringing the best entertainment in Australia and around the world to Rockhampton.

"There were some legendary nights and some legendary hangovers."

But there was also a serious side to Lee's Beef Australia visit, with proceeds from the sale of his Spirit of the Anzacs album and autobiography going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Legacy and Soldier On.

"The Royal Flying Doctor Service is critically important," he said.

"They're literally out there saving lives."

Lee said Legacy and Soldier On were also doing great work supporting returned servicemen and women, and their families.

"It's really important that those who put their lives on the line for the country don't fall through the cracks when they come home," he said.
