Lifesaving message for our youngest residents

KINGAROY kids will be learning about water safety while enjoying their weekly story time session.

The Kingaroy Library will host a special water safety story time at the Kingaroy pool from 10am on Wednesday.

The water safety story time is part of a special story time series recommended by the First 5 Forever program that aims to deliver family focused literacy initiatives.

Councillor Danita Potter said the session will be an opportunity to introduce kids and their parents to the importance of water safety.

"Unfortunately children aged between 0-4 are at the most risk of suffering from drowning incidences and we are hoping that parents and children will gain a greater understanding of the importance of water safety," she said.

"The session will include story time featuring water safety themed books authored by Laurie Lawrence as well as water safety education, activities and water based play."

The Kids Alive water safety program, founded by Lawrence in 1988, is all about educating Australians on the five important steps to reduce the risk of preschool drowning.

The first 100 families through the gate will receive a free water safety pack, supplied by the Kids Alive, Do The Five team.

The event is free and families are invited to enjoy a swim after the story time session.
