IT'S not every day you get to meet your AFL hero, and 13-year-old Rebecca Stampey came prepared.

The Beerwah teen presented Brisbane Lions fullback Daniel Merrett with a birthday gift yesterday, ahead of his birthday on December 12.

She had done her research.

"I got him a Bluetooth stereo because he really likes music, so he can take it everywhere with him. And I made him a card," she said.

Yesterday's heavy rain didn't stop Rebecca and her family from watching the Lions train at Noosa's Main Beach for an hour and a half.

"We got drenched," Rebecca said.

The team was celebrating their Noosa Pre-Season Camp for the 2015 season and participated in a "beach bash" obstacle challenge that divided them into teams.

In addition to watching the action, Rebecca met players and had photos taken with Merrett.

"It was amazing meeting him," Rebecca said.

"I play football and I'm mostly a defender and so is he. So seeing him play, like, really well - I started liking him."

Rebecca is a Queenslander, born and bred, but her AFL supporter genes come from her Tasmanian parents.

They moved to Queensland 30 years ago.

"My family started with barracking for Hawthorn, and when Leigh Matthews shifted as a coach to the Lions ... we followed them," said Rebecca's mum, Therese.

She said the attitude and generosity of the Lions players visiting Noosa had been fantastic.

"The humbleness of the players - they all took time out to talk," she said.

"It wasn't just a quick, rushed photo - they were really lovely guys.

"It's nice when the kids can feel rewarded with their support too.

"She (Rebecca) was over-the-moon ecstatic."
