Mooove over...piggy and calf share mother's milk

LATEST: A CALF whose mother was letting a little piggy suckle from her has decided it wants in on the act too.

It was the second surprise Amamoor Creek's Trish Hume got on her farm in the past week, after seeing the piglet unashamedly help itself to the milk on Saturday.

On Monday she spotted the calf and piglet sharing a warm drink of milk side by side.

I guess you could say they are brothers from another udder.

MONDAY:

AMAMOOR Creek's Trish Hume got up early last Saturday and caught a milk thief red-handed.

The farmer found an eight-week-old piglet suckling from her three-year-old cow.

It was a sight so unbelievable Mrs Hume, wife of Gympie mayoral candidate Derek Hume, ran the couple of hundred metres back to the family home to grab her phone.

Later that evening, the piglet returned for another feed.

This time, the cow's three-week-old calf had pushed in and was sharing feeding time with mum.

Mrs Hume said the cow's milk was serving the piglet well.

"It's the fattest piglet - twice the size of its (sibling)," Mrs Hume said.

"My neighbours are astonished and said they had never seen anything like it."

Trish Hume wants to know if anyone else has seen something like this on the farm. Send your stories/photos to editorial@gympietimes.com and tell us about it.
