Littleproud to host NDIS Kingaroy community forum

DO YOU have questions or want to know more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme?

Maranoa MP David Littleproud will hold a NDIS community information and question-and-answer forum in Kingaroy on October 12.

"Three months ago, the NDIS rolled-out in the South Burnett. I wanted to hold this forum so our community could learn more about the NDIS and bring up any concerns so we can address them,” Mr Littleproud said.

The NDIS is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Staff from the NDIA will attend this forum to listen and offer assistance about the South Burnett rollout.

"The NDIS is the largest social reform since Medicare,” he said.

"I'm holding this session to give our community a chance to speak with the NDIA and hopefully iron out any kinks.

"It's a once-in-a-generation landmark reform and the NDIS is making a real difference, especially in rural communities like ours.

"I believe one of the biggest tragedies for our rural communities is when a loved one is forced to move away - move to a larger town or city, away from family and everything they've ever known - to receive care.

"The NDIS rollout is making a difference to this.”

Mr Littleproud said the forum will also include personal stories of those - and their families - accessing support through the NDIS.

"I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with the numerous disability support groups in my electorate,” he said.

"I have sat in their offices, with their staff and clients; listened to their heart-wrenching stories and also stories of wonderful support provided.

"These professionals and those living with disability and their families need the support of the NDIS.”

From accessing personal care and support to providing therapy services and essential equipment - the NDIS is the new way of providing support for people with a disability, their families and carers in Australia. The NDIS helps about 460,000 Australians aged under 65 with a permanent or significant disability.
