LNP leadership battle: I Don't Care in with a chance

FORMER Scripture Union boss Tim Mander is leading an online poll on who should lead the LNP in Queensland.

Closely followed by a bloke (or woman) called I don't care.

The Courier-Mail poll shows very little support for former deputy Premier Jeff Seeney or former Attorney General Jarrod Bleijie, the MP for the Sunshine Coast seat of Kawana.

The Courier-Mail poll tally just before 7.30 this morning.

According to News Corp, Mr Springborg was last night within a few votes of securing a majority.

But if the forces of change backing Tim Nicholls and Tim Mander combine, he could be in trouble after 14 months in the job.

Mr Springborg will argue that he has propelled the LNP into a winning position.

He told his local paper, the Warwick Daily News, that playing the leadership out in public disappointed the party's supporters.

"I get the feedback from my colleagues that they can't believe this is happening when we're leading Labor 52 to 48," he said.

"I take my guidance from the constituents of the Southern Downs and they say they don't like this being played out publicly."

Mr Springborg narrowly beat Mr Mander for the leadership of the LNP after the election last year.
