Mackay link in alleged child poisoning case

A YOUNG mother charged with allegedly poisoning her previously healthy four-year-old daughter with chemotherapy drugs is believed to be from Mackay.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in a Brisbane court on Thursday charged with grievous bodily harm.

It is believed the woman attended a local high school and is now living in Arundel.

Police said the 22-year-old woman was charged following a joint investigation between South Eastern Region detectives and the State Crime Operation Command's Child Safety and Sexual Crime Group.

The case received much media attention this week as supporters of the family turned against the woman, who police allege may be responsible for poisoning her daughter between last June 30 and April 11 this year.

The daughter is reported to be in a "critical condition" in Brisbane Royal Children's Hospital.
