Man, 62, threatens woman with knife, asks for a kiss

A 62-YEAR-OLD man was holding a knife when he asked a woman for a kiss while she was out in her front garden in Howard, a court has heard.

Owen John McDonald, 62, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in a public place and possessing explosives.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jeanette Grigoris said the woman was in her front yard when she saw McDonald approach on December 8.

She said the woman called police a couple of days later, and they questioned him over the incident.

While conducting a search of McDonald's home, police found five bullet cartridges, despite McDonald not holding a licence to own firearms or explosives.

Defence lawyer Trinity McGarvie said McDonald, who was intoxicated at the time, did not remember the incident.

She said he had possession of the bullets as they had sentimental value.

Magistrate Graeme Tatnell fined McDonald $250 for possessing the explosive and $250 for the possession of the knife.
