Man to face court for stealing tonnes of avocados

A BLACKBUTT man facing 18 charges in relation to the alleged theft of four tonnes of avocados will face court again later this year.

Steve Moore will appear in Nanango Magistrates Court on November 8, after his court hearing was adjourned on Thursday September 20.

The 41-year-old man was charged with the theft of the avocados during 2017 and 2018 from two avocado orchards in Blackbutt.

Officers from the Kingaroy Major and Organised Crime Squad (rural) charged the man on August 24, following an investigation into the theft of the avocados worth approximately $20,000.

Moore was charged with a total of 18 offences, including six counts of fraud, six counts of stealing and six counts of receiving stolen property.

Detective Sergeant Mark Ferling said the farms had significant losses.

"The four tonnes of avocados represent income for these two farms," he said.

"Our farmers need as much support as possible at this time, and a theft like this is just intolerable."
