Manchester boss' death stare after reporter's phone rings

LOUIS van Gaal was impressed enough by Manchester United's 0-0 draw with Chelsea to decide not to resign from his position as manager, but he was decidedly unimpressed in his post-match press conference when he was interrupted by a mobile phone.

The build-up to Monday night's encounter has surrounded Van Gaal's future at Old Trafford after it was revealed he had attempted to walk out on the club twice, only to be talked in to staying by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

It was added that Van Gaal would make his final decision based on the performance against Chelsea and whether or not he felt the squad were still playing for him - something he later confirmed in his post-0match interview as he declared he will not resign.

However, a video from the press conference has emerged showing Van Gaal losing his cool after a mobile phone starts ringing midway through his sentence.

Van Gaal was explaining how he was pleased with his side controlling the majority of the possession against Guus Hiddink's Chelsea when he was stopped in his tracks, triggering another of his famous 'death stares' at the guilty reporter. He added sarcastically: "A lot of respect."

United's next game comes against Swansea at Old Trafford on Saturday in their first match of 2016, with Van Gaal confounding most critics who predicted he would not be in the job come New Year's Day after the terrible run of form which has seen United plummet to sixth, having led the Premier League table earlier in the season.

Defeat to the Swans could allow West Ham, Watford and Stoke leapfrog them in the table and see United drop as low as ninth, although they are only nine points off leaders Arsenal - though Leicester can go 11 points clear of United with a win over Manchester City tonight.
