Many young part-time workers would rather be full-time
MORE than a quarter of all young workers want extra hours, new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed on Thursday.
The latest labour force data showed 27% of workers aged 15 to 24 years would rather work full-time than their current part-time shifts.
ABS director of labour force and supplementary surveys Cassandra Gligora said of 824,000 part-time workers who want more hours, more than half wanted to work full-time.
"While more women were employed part-time, a higher proportion of male part-time workers were underemployed (28% compared with 19% of women), she said.
"The greatest difference was reported for those aged 35-44 years (42% for men and 17% for women)."
