She tried to find him love online, but fell for him herself
WHEN Maryborough's Kasey Hudson tried to find love for her best friend on social media, she never imagined she would end up falling for him herself.
In October, 2013, we reported how Kasey put a cheeky post on a Fraser Coast Facebook site seeking a partner for her best friend Harley Dietz, saying he was "free to a good home".
Kasey certainly sold Harley's attributes, saying he was handy around the house, a great single dad to two kids, didn't mind vacuuming and washing up and was a loyal friend.
When the Chronicle interviewed the two friends about the unique way Kasey had tried to find Harley love, the question came up - why didn't the two of them get together?
At the time, the two laughed it off, saying they felt more like brother and sister than husband and wife.
"We'd been friends since high school and we'd never really thought about it," Kasey said.
But all that has changed and the two are now happily engaged.
"I couldn't give him away, so I figured I'd better have him," Kasey said.
Kasey said their feelings for each other grew when they agreed to move in together in an effort to cut down on household costs.
But what started as an arrangement between friends soon turned into something more for both Harley and Kasey.
Both have children and Kasey said the kids were thrilled the two couple were engaged.
She even got a Mother's Day card from Harley's kids, welcoming her to the family.
Kasey said the two were only together for a little while before they became engaged.
"It was a quick engagement, but we've known each other for 10 years," she said.
Kasey said they were planning on tying the knot in October.
